My name is Will Kelly. This is my personal blog. I’m a freelance writer and content marketer.
My professional writing career had me work across industries, including telecommunications, internet services, financial services, and systems integration. During the last few years of my writing career, I focused on thought leadership, marketing collateral, and solutions content.
Along the way, I’ve published articles about DevOps and the cloud on TechTarget, InfoWorld, Opensource.com, InfoQ, and others.
My favorite topics to write about over the years include:
- Enterprise mobility
- BYOD
- mobile security
- project management
- enterprise collaboration
As a freelance writer and content strategist, I focus on writing articles about the cloud and DevOps for technology publications. I’m also working on content projects for corporate clients in those markets.
My freelance experience also includes ghostwriting for technology industry executives on cybersecurity, mobile security, IoT, and digital transformation topics. I’ve planned ad developed sponsored content for companies including Cisco, IBM, Samsung, and Red Hat to support marketing campaigns and demand generation activities.
Previously, I was the Senior Product Marketing Manager for a Kubernetes on the Edge startup, where I championed solutions architect-focused personas, messaging, and positioning to tell their story to prospective customers better. While there, I developed positioning, messaging, and a new content strategy for a new corporate go-to-market (GTM) strategy.
As the Technical Marketing Manager for a container security startup, I developed their first white papers and thought leadership content to support the company’s positions about open source software, DevOps, DevSecOps, open source software procurement, and software supply chain security.
While a Senior Technical Writer/Solutions Advisor for a federal systems integrator, I found a passion for introducing commercial technologies and practices such as the cloud and DevOps into public sector agencies and the Department of Defense. Working with solution architects to develop new solutions offerings, such as a standard cloud migration and cloud management offering, gives me perspectives on cloud adoption that you can’t get working on a marketing team. I also was the primary writer for an internal corporate initiative capturing technology innovation across client programs. This project let me capture stories about how public sector agencies implemented the cloud, analytics, and other emerging technologies to serve their constituents better.
During my career, I developed an interest in enterprise collaboration tools and the culture that must be in place for teams to collaborate with their counterparts across their organization. Chance, you’ll catch some of my personal opinions on this blog.
I’m frequently quoted as an industry thought leader in vendor-sponsored articles about the cloud, cybersecurity, and related topics on IDG sites, including cio.com and Networkworld.com.
During pre-COVID-19 times, I used to do circuit training at the gym for fun. After way too long working out in my basement, I rekindled my love for spinning class.
